It's been a while since I was addicted with some series. This series--The Lunar Chronicles--is a definition of an addictive series for me. It was just like marijuana. I just couldn't put it down when I red it. Of course, this is too much. LOL.

Going back to the third book, Cinder and the Rampion Crew had been success to kidnap Kai from the wedding ceremony. Ugh, I didn't know what would happen if Kai and Levana was literally married. It would be a big disaster for the earth. After the explanation of Cinder's Plan to claim her throne, Kai agreed to help. Well, actually, all of them didn't have any choice. That's why, the plan had to be as smooth as they thought. Although, the Rampion Crew was not completed. Sybil Mira had been kidnap Scarlet and it made Wolf unstable. Then, Thorne became blind because of a hard knock in his head. With this condition, Cinder tried as much as possible to be confident and could defeat Levana. 

On the other hand, there was a young princess that lived in Artamesia. She was very beautiful and everyone admit it. Of course because of jelousy, Levana decided to destroy the beauty. There was some scar in the princess' face. Her name was Winter. She was a kind princess. She was very lovely and as a Lunar, Winter tried to not use her ability. Because of that, sometime she became mad. Fortunately, there was Jacin, Winter's guard and childhood friend. Then, they had feeling for each other. Sadly, Levana didn't accept this. Even, she accepted what Thaumaturge Aimery proposal to marry Winter. Ugh, what a bad mother she is!

I have to admit that Winter is more thrilling then the other three books. Containing 635 pages, the journey in this fourth book was very long and quite unexpected. Although I could feel the struggle of Cinder to gain trust from the Lunar citizen, I felt that Cinder's way was too much easy. Ahh, I have to admit too that I could feel some missing link in the story. Even though I didn't know what is that. As a retelling Snow White Story, I should appreciate what Meyer's do. It's really amazing to know how Meyer execute her story. It was really amazing. I didn't regret it.

Then, about the cover, I really love it. I have to emphasize it. I really like the design. It was simple but cool. I wonder who is the designer. Although this book is quite thick, I could read it only in two days. LOL. Maybe I could do that because I was very curious with the story! 

Ehm, I have to tell you also, that this book is not only about action or thriller event or what. But, this book is a romance too. You could find the relationship between Winter-Jacin, Scarlet-Wolf, Cress-Thorne, and of course Cinder-Kai. I was a little bit annoyed when Kai finally marry Levana. Ugh, I hate that ceremony. It was disgusting... I wonder, how much old Levana is? Sigh.

After all, this book is still interesting and worth it to read.

Cress is the third book of The Lunar Chronicles written by Marissa Meyer. If Cinder is a retelling of Cinderella and Scarlet is The Red Riding Hood, Cress itself is a retelling of Rapunzel. Yeah, if you know the story about Rapunzel, you would remember a girl with a long-blonde-hair. She was living in some tower that have no neither windows nor stairs. She lived alone and no one know her existence. Only her 'aunt' who always came to her. Who is her parents? She didn't know too.

Well, in my opinion, there is no much differentiation between Rapunzel and Cress. You just have to change the tower into satellite. Then, the ability of painting changed into hacking. Wow! No one would expect that Rapunzel in the third era is a hacker and abandoned in a space satellite. Her name is Cress. Since she is child, she had been separated from her parents because she is a shell. For Lunars, shell is very dangerous. Moreover, the parents of Queen Levana--the Lunars Queen--has been killed by a shell. But, because of her ability, Cress could gain some trust from Thaumaturge Mira. After that, Thaumaturge Mira took Cress into a space satellite and give her many missions to keep Lunars sovereignty.

Starting from some communication that has been made between Cress and Cinder, finally Cinder took a decision to safe Cress. Although there are some reluctance from the Rampion Crew, but in the end, they accept what Cinder's want. After they prepared the plan, Cinder told Cress and made sure that she had to be ready. The thing that was never expected is the appearing of Sybil Mira in Cress' satellite. So, what would happen, then? Is Cress would be safe? Please read this book to find out.

For me, this book is a little bit slow if I compare it to the other two. Why I said like that? Because, in this book there were three scenes that would be appear, first, the Rampion crew condition; second, the journey of Thorne and Cress in Dessert; and three, the preparation of Kai Wedding with Levana--well, poor Kai! Okay, actually I would not complain about the way Meyer show the character's condition, but, I think that there are some parts that really slow, very slow indeed. Sigh. I try to enjoy it as much as possible, but I still could feel it.

But, although I said that this book has a slow plot, I think I should appreciate the way Meyer made the plot. It's very unexpected. Well, I have to admit that the last part of this book is not in my prediction. Great for that! Thanks for the plot 'twist'! Ehm, okay. It's not necessarily twist, but somehow I couldn't predict it. 

Then, from the story itself, I really like it. How Cress, Thorne, Scarlet, Wolf, Cinder, and, even, Kai, interact. In someway, I find their oh-so-sweet moment. It made me giggle when I read it. One thing that you should know is, I red this book in the middle of my mid test. Why? Because I am really curious with the story. I am really eager to kill Levana because of her greediness. She is a bad queen after all. I hate her so much. I just couldn't keep my self to calm when Kai proposed her. Eugh! I hate this moment. But, I think I know what Kai felt. He has so many burden to make his citizen's happy and prosper. Ehm, but again, I have to agree with Cinder, marrying Levana is not the best solution at all. She would kill Kai after she gain the status of east commonwealth's empress. I am really agree. 

Well, then, even there are so many hatred appeared because of Levana, I have to be happy because of Cress and Thorne relationship is really cute.  Their journey in the dessert is quite exhausting but make them close to each other. Yeay!

By the way, I still love the cover. It's simple but collect-able. Lol. Okay then, if you want to read some Young Adult novel with unordinary retelling story, The Lunar Chronicles could be best for you. Don't forget to read the first and the second book. I am ensure you that you will not regret it.

Pernah membaca kisah Si Gadis Berkerudung Merah? Iya, gadis yang menjelahi hutan sendirian untuk bertemu neneknya. Yang pada akhirnya bertemu dengan serigala di tengah jalan. Yap, Scarlet, buku kedua dari seri The Lunar Chronicles ini merupakan sebuah retelling dari dongeng klasik tersebut. Masih ada si gadis berkerudung merah, nenek si gadis, hingga sang serigala. Akan tetapi, dalam hal ini konteksnya jauh berbeda.

Entahlah. Aku lupa sudah menyebutkannya atau belum. Yang pasti, awalnya aku sama sekali tidak memiliki pemikiran akan menikmati seri ini. Maksudku, aku bukanlah pembaca yang mudah tertarik dengan hype sebuah buku. Bisa dilihat kan kalau aku membaca buku ini di tahun 2017 bukannya di tahun 2016. Hal ini cukup menandakan bahwa aku tidak terlalu mengikuti seri ini.

Well, meskipun demikian, menurutku membaca seri The Lunar Chronicles di tahun 2017 bukanlah suatu hal yang salah. Mengapa? Karena, nyatanya aku malah jadi menikmati cerita ini sedemikian rupa. Yep. Aku malah ketagihan dengan kisah Cinder-Kai-Scarlet-Wolf ini. Ups, curhatnya kepanjangan. 

Jadi, seperti yang aku bilang di atas, Scarlet merupakan buku kedua dari seri The Lunar Chronicles. Merupakan sebuah bentuk retelling dari cerita Si Gadis Berkerudung Merah. Hoho. Alkisah, Scarlet Benoit yang tinggal di Rieux, Perancis, bersedih hati karena neneknya, Michelle Benoit menghilang. Scarlet begitu yakin neneknya diculik karena chip identitas milik neneknya dikeluarkan paksa dan ditinggalkan di kamarnya. Bagaimanapun caranya, Scarlet pun berusaha untuk mencari neneknya ke Paris. Dibantu oleh seorang petarung jalanan bernama Wolf, Scarlet pun memahami bahwa penculikan atas neneknya bukan penculikan biasa. Ada hubungan antara orang-orang Bumi dan juga Bulan. Kemudian, meskipun Wolf selalu menemani Scarlet kemana saja, Scarlet merasa ada sesuatu yang disembunyikan oleh Wolf. Sesuatu yang nyatanya bisa membuat siapapun tidak akan pernah lagi mempercayai Wolf.

Di lain sisi, Cinder bersama Thorne berusaha untuk bisa kabur dari penjara di New Beijing. Berbekal tangan baru Cinder yang diberi oleh Dokter Erland sebelum kepergiannya ke Afrika. Setelah melalui kejar-kejaran seru dan hampir tertangkap kembali, Cinder dan Thorne berhasil kabur menggunakan pesawat curian milik Thorne, pesawat perang asal Amerika Serikat, Rampion. Untuk sementara, Cinder dan Thorne aman dalam pesawat. Akan tetapi, beban Cinder yang berat--karena Kai akhirnya menerima aliansi pernikahan dari Levana--membuat Cinder mau tak mau harus berusaha sedemikian rupa untuk bisa mengatur strategi untuk dapat mengalahkan Levana. Bagaimanapun, Cinder lah pewaris sah takhta di Bulan karena dia adalah Selene, putri Bulan yang hilang.

Bagiku, membaca The Lunar Chronicles ini adalah candu. Mengapa aku mengatakan demikian? Karena pada akhirnya aku malah lebih tertarik membacanya ketimbang belajar UTS. Sungguh kebiasaan yang kebablasan. Hoho. Tapi aku nggak menyesal sih saat selesai membacanya. Menurutku, Marissa Meyer telah berhasil dengan baik membuat retelling yang tidak biasa. Ia benar-benar berhasil menciptakan dunia yang begitu kompleks. Adanya orang-orang Bumi dan Bulan membuatku jadi penasaran, bagaimana bisa semua hal itu mungkin terjadi.

Dari segi cerita, Scarlet sendiri memang lebih menantang daripada Cinder. Aroma action dari buku ini lebih kental terasa. Apalagi, ternyata Wolf memang bukan sekadar petarung jalanan. Dia adalah seorang Alpha dalam kawanannya. Tidak heran bila aura Wolf begitu mengintimidasi. Sedangkan, untuk Cinder sendiri, aku suka caranya bekerja sama dengan Thorne. At least, they get along well.

Mungkin, saat membaca Scarlet, kita akan dibuat bingung. Memang, apa hubungan antara Cinder dan Scarlet? Di awal-awal mungkin tidak terlalu terlihat. Akan tetapi, setelah masuk halaman 130-an, jawaban dari benang merah antara Cinder dan Scarlet akan terlihat. Yaa, aku tidak menyangka saja pada akhirnya seri ini begitu complicated. Meyer berhasil mencampur-adukkan dongeng serta kisah yang ia buat sendiri. Tentunya, kisah Cinder ini membuatku terpacu untuk membaca buku lanjutannya secepatnya--which is, sudah kulakukan. Apalagi, selain action yang terlihat, terdapat romansa yang khas dalams setiap kisah. Seperti Cinder-Kai dan Scarlet-Wolf. Untuk saat ini, yang paling sweet adalah Scarlet-Wolf. Akan tetapi, Pangeran Kai tetap menjadi idolaku. Hehe.

Pada intinya, kalau kalian mencari bacaan ringan tapi juga menantang, maka seri The Lunar Chronicles bisa menjadi pilihan.

Sebenarnya, sudah sejak lama saya ingin membaca seri Lunar Chronicles ini. Selain karena unsur retelling yang disuguhkan, saya tertarik dengan kisah perseteruan antara orang-orang bumi dan bulan. Kalau boleh jujur, seri ini membuat saya tidak dapat berhenti membacanya. Bahkan, saya rela untuk tidak tidur untuk menghabiskan keseluruhan seri.

Linh Cinder adalah cyborg yang terkenal sebagai mekanik ternama di New Beijing. Bersama dengan Iko, sebuah android, Cinder membuka sebuah kios di pasar. Jati dirinya yang memang bukan manusia sepenuhnya, terkadang membuat banyak orang yang memandang jijik pada Cinder. Begitu pula dengan ibu tirinya, Linh Andri, dan putrinya, Pearl. Untungnya, adik Pearl, Peony, masih mau untuk berteman dengan Cinder. Suatu ketika, pangeran mahkota Persemakmuran Timur, Kai, mengunjungi kios Cinder untuk memperbaik android miliknya, Nainsi. The Lunar Chronicles merupakan sebuah seri fiksi-ilmiah yang ditulis oleh Marissa Meyer. Mengambil latar dunia modern, yakni pada Third Era, zaman setelah berakhirnya Peran Dunia IV. Di sini, Meyer mencoba untuk menggambarkan bentuk modern dari dunia. Mulai dari tata pemerintahan dunia yang lebih sederhana, hanya ada enam negara saja, hingga teknologi-teknologi yang berkembang, seperti adanya hover dan portscreen. Meyer berhasil menggambarkan semua itu dengan detail. Kemudian, hal yang paling saya sukai dari novel ini adalah, retelling dongeng klasik yang tidak biasa. Jujur, saya begitu menyukainya.

Awalnya, saya tidak sebegitu berkekspektasi dengan novel ini. Saya cuma mengharapkan suatu bacaan ringan. Nyatanya, semua itu salah. Saya sangat ketagihan dengan novel ini dan berdoa semoga novel ini tidak cepat tamat, *which is, itu sangat tidak mungkin. Meyer berhasil memorak-porandakan saya dengan cerita yang ia sajikan. Pada akhirnya, saya penasaran bagaimana cara Kai menghadapi Levana, hingga identitas sebenarnya dari Cinder. Saya sampai geleng-geleng kepala saat mennyadari bahwa imajinasi dari Marissa Meyer begitu apik.

Mungkin, ada beberapa hal yang masih belum saya mengerti. Entah karena saya yang terlalu excited sampai tidak memperhatikan detail, saya merasa ada yang salah. Sebenarnya, kekuatan manipulatif yang dimiliki oleh orang-orang Bulan itu berasal dari mana? Bukankah awalnya mereka juga orang Bumi? Saya masih belum tahu jawabannya sampai sekarang.

Pokoknya, bagi siapapun yang menginginkan suatu karya retelling yang tidak biasa, The Lunar Chronicles adalah pilihan yang cerdas. Saya pastikan kalian tidak akan kecewa.

4 bintang untuk Pangeran Kai--sepertinya dia akan menjadi favorit saya sampai akhir seri.
